What we actually look for when we review a mobile game

People ask how we settle on a rating, so here's the honest breakdown. The first thing we check is how it feels in the first five minutes — does it load fast, does the control scheme make sense, is the first session fun without a tutorial slog? A lot of games lose points before we're even warmed up.

Then we live with the game for a while. A title can be dazzling for an hour and shallow by day three, and only real playtime exposes that. We rotate the game across different phones too, because a smooth experience on a flagship means nothing if it stutters on mid-range hardware.

Battery and heat matter more than people admit. A game that turns your phone into a hand warmer and drains it in twenty minutes is a game you won't keep. We note it every time.

Finally, we ask a simple question: did we want to open it again? All the numbers in the world can't beat that instinct. If the whole team keeps reaching for a game unprompted, that's usually where the high scores come from.
