Tilt versus touch: which racing control scheme is actually better?

Tilt versus touch: which racing control scheme is actually better?

This debate comes up every time we review a racer, so let's settle it. Neither tilt nor touch is universally better; they're good at different things. Tilt gives you analog steering, which is a huge advantage on long sweeping curves. Touch gives you binary, predictable inputs, which shines in tight traffic.

Personally I default to tilt for open tracks and switch to touch when a game throws a lot of obstacles at me. The problem is that many games only support one scheme well, so you're stuck with whatever the developer favored. That's why we always note control quality in our reviews.

There's also comfort to consider. Tilt means holding your phone at a fixed angle, which gets tiring on long sessions and looks slightly ridiculous on a train. Touch lets you slouch. Don't underestimate how much that matters for a game you'll play in short bursts.

My advice: try both in the settings before you decide a game 'feels bad.' More than once we've seen a racer transform completely just by switching schemes.
